Privacy
Your data should work for you.
YourLens is built around personal information, so privacy cannot be an afterthought. This page explains what the early product collects, why it is used, and what choices you have.
Effective August 6, 2026
Our Trust & Privacy Principles explain the broader product standards that guide these decisions.
The short version
- We do not ask for or receive your Netflix password.
- We use your information to build and improve YourLens for you.
- We do not sell or rent your personal information.
- You control access on your device and may sign out at any time.
- You may ask to access, correct, or delete your information.
Information we collect
Depending on how you use YourLens, we may collect:
- Account information, such as the email address used for a private sign-in link.
- Information you provide, including conversation answers, corrections, recommendation feedback, and other text you choose to submit.
- Imported information, such as a Netflix viewing activity file you choose to upload.
- Information YourLens creates, including profile descriptions, inferred taste attributes, candidate results, and recommendations.
- Basic technical and usage information, such as page views, feature interactions, browser or device type, IP address, and diagnostic data.
How we use it
We use information to:
- Create, explain, and refine your Lens.
- Generate and evaluate recommendations.
- Remember your progress and provide private sign-in links.
- Understand which features work and where the product fails.
- Protect the service, diagnose problems, and prevent misuse.
- Communicate with you when you ask us to.
We may use de-identified or aggregated information to understand product performance and improve YourLens, provided it no longer reasonably identifies you.
AI processing
YourLens uses OpenAI’s API to help interpret answers and viewing patterns, create profile language, and support recommendations. Relevant portions of the information you provide may be sent to OpenAI for that purpose.
YourLens does not use your information to train its own general AI model. OpenAI states that inputs and outputs submitted through its API are not used to train its models by default. YourLens does not intentionally opt your content into model training. OpenAI may retain limited API data for safety, abuse monitoring, or legal compliance according to its applicable policies.
Service providers
YourLens relies on a small number of outside services to operate:
- Render for application hosting.
- OpenAI for AI processing.
- TMDB for movie information, images, and streaming-availability data.
- Resend to deliver private sign-in emails.
- PostHog and Google Analytics for product and website analytics.
These providers may process limited information as needed to perform their services and under their own terms and privacy commitments. YourLens does not send raw viewing titles, conversation answers, profile text, uploaded files, or email addresses to analytics tools as event properties.
Cookies and analytics
YourLens uses an essential cookie to keep the product working, securely maintain access on your device, remember your progress, and associate your activity with the correct private account. This cookie may remain on your device for up to 60 days and may be refreshed when you return.
Signing out ends access from that browser without deleting your saved YourLens data. An unfinished answer in Conversation may be stored temporarily in that browser for up to 24 hours so a refresh, tab switch, or app switch does not make you start that answer over. The temporary browser draft expires automatically and is cleared when you use Not me or Sign out.
Analytics services may use cookies or similar identifiers to measure visits and feature usage. Analytics are used for product improvement, not targeted advertising.
You can limit or delete cookies through your browser settings, although blocking essential cookies may prevent parts of the product from working.
Account access and sign-in links
YourLens uses passwordless sign-in links sent to the email address associated with a saved Lens. Sign-in links expire after a limited period and are intended for one-time use. Anyone who can access your email may be able to use a sign-in link, so you are responsible for maintaining the security of your email account.
After successful authentication, YourLens may keep that browser signed in for up to 60 days, with the period refreshed when you return. Signing out clears YourLens access from that browser but does not delete your account, Lens, imports, conversation responses, feedback, or other saved information.
On a shared or public device, sign out when you are finished and close the browser. You may request deletion separately as described under “Your choices.”
Storage and retention
YourLens stores account and product information on systems hosted in the United States. We keep it while your account is active and for as long as reasonably needed to provide and improve the service, protect the product, resolve disputes, and meet legal obligations.
When information is deleted, limited copies may remain temporarily in backups or security logs before they are overwritten through normal operations.
Your choices
You may ask us to provide, correct, or delete personal information associated with you. Signing out does not submit a deletion request. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request. Some information may be retained when required by law or reasonably necessary for security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, or legal compliance.
Email rich@yourlens.me with the subject “Privacy request.”
Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical measures intended to protect personal information. No online service can guarantee absolute security, and YourLens is still an early-stage product. Please do not submit information you do not want processed as described here.
Children
YourLens is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and delete it.
Changes and contact
As YourLens develops, this policy may change. We will post the updated version here and revise the effective date. Material changes may also be communicated within the product or by email.
Questions about this policy can be sent to rich@yourlens.me.
